The twenty first century learning is a learning activity by presenting the development of information and communication technology (ICT) in the learning process. In addition, it needs the changing of the learning mindset from teacher-centered learning changes to student-centered learning.

In the education aspect, especially learning part, the improvements are needed in the area of ​​educational infrastructure, direct involvement (engaging) of students in learning, and the important one is improving the teachers’ quality of carrying out their duties.
There are four characteristics in twenty first century learning, spread over 4C (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation). The explanations presented below are the four characteristics of twenty first century learning. 

Communication
Communication is the first characteristic of the twenty first century learning. This characteristic can be done by applying or facilitating students to understand, manage, and create effective communication in various forms (orally, writing, and multimedia) more dominant.

Students are given the opportunity to use their abilities to express their ideas, both when discussing with friends and when solving problems given by the teacher.
The use of information and communication technology that are directed, controlled, routine and participatory control will increase the attitudes, knowledge, and skills of students. The more important thing is the support from teachers, parents and all parties are also needed more.

Collaboration
Collaboration is the second characteristic of the twenty first century learning. The teacher expected to be able to facilitate the students to demonstrate their abilities in the learning process.
Students' abilities must be improved in relation to group collaboration, leadership, adapting to various roles and responsibilities, working productively with other students, putting empathy in anyplace, and respecting different perspectives.

Students must also be directed to carry out personal responsibilities flexibly, adapt to the environment and society, and be able to set and achieve high standards and goals for themselves and others.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
On these twenty first century learning characteristics. It was expected that the teacher in carrying out his duties able to provide examples to their students in activating reasoning that makes sense in understanding and making complex choices.
In addition, teachers also provide examples in understanding the interconnection between systems. The use of their ability to try or solve the problems faces independently needs to get attention.
Problem solving has levels in the form of compiling, disclosing, analyzing, and solving problems that are present in the implementation of learning by using various relevant sources.

Creative and Innovative
The teachers must be able to instill creative and innovative attitudes that are integrated in every material and learning process that is delivered. This is intended so that students have the ability to develop, implement, and convey new ideas to others.
Besides that, being open and responsive to new perspectives that are different in the learning process will be useful to be applied in their lives in the future.
Thus, the four characteristics of the twenty first century learning that should be possessed and done by the teachers. Hopefully, the teachers can provide benefits for their students in their daily teaching activities.

Finally, to achieve educational goals, the most important thing is assessment part of the learning process. The teachers must be able to design a rating system that is continuous (since begin to do the activity, being, and after completing the activity). Assessment can be given among students as feedback with rubrics that have been prepared or based on the performance and the products.
With the sincere intention of the teachers to prepare the next generation who are bright, have an intelligent intellectual attitude, vocational intelligent, emotionally intelligent, morally intelligent, and spiritually intelligent. Self-development as well as trying to sustainable innovate will provide maximum results in the form of intelligent, independent, superior and resilient graduates who are able to survive in the 21st century and subsequent centuries.
